Packaging Netting
Tubular mesh sleeves for protecting, bundling, and presenting products — from fresh produce and wine bottles to auto parts and retail multipacks. Extruded and knitted constructions, custom sizes.
Flexible protection for products of every shape.
Packaging netting is tubular mesh that slips over a product to protect its surface, hold its shape, or bundle it with other items. The open-weave construction allows airflow and visibility while cushioning against impact, abrasion, and moisture during handling, storage, and transport.
Pursell Manufacturing produces packaging netting in both extruded and knitted constructions, in custom diameters and roll lengths. The right construction depends on the product — extruded mesh for rigid containment and produce bags, knitted mesh for surface protection and delicate goods.
What packaging netting is used for
Fresh produce bags
Onions, garlic, citrus, potatoes, and other root vegetables are packaged in extruded tubular netting for ventilation, weight handling, and retail display. The open mesh allows air circulation and lets buyers see the product.
Wine and liquor bottles
Knitted mesh sleeves cushion glass bottles against impact and abrasion during shipping. The soft construction conforms to the bottle shape without scratching labels or glass surfaces.
Auto parts and components
Knitted mesh wraps painted panels, trim pieces, gears, and mechanical components to prevent surface damage during transit. The sleeve adapts to irregular shapes and provides oil and grease resistance.
Retail multipackaging
Tubular netting bundles multiple retail items — beverage bottles, canned goods, detergents — into promotional multipacks for retail display without adhesives or rigid secondary packaging.
Specialty foods
Cheese, cured meats, and other perishables use knitted mesh for shape retention and airflow. The conformable sleeve holds product form without restricting ventilation.
Flower bulbs and seeds
Netting supports handling and transport of bulbs and seeds while maintaining product integrity and allowing air circulation through the package.
Extruded vs. knitted packaging netting
Both constructions are tubular mesh — the difference is how the mesh is made and how it behaves on the product.
Formed by pushing molten polymer through a die. The mesh geometry is fixed and the netting is rigid and structured. Best for produce bags, firewood, and applications where the net needs to hold a defined shape.
- Produce bags (onions, garlic, citrus, potatoes)
- Firewood and pine straw bundles
- Heavy containment and pallet covering
Made from interlocked loops of yarn. The mesh is soft and conformable, adapting to the shape of the product inside. Best for surface protection, delicate goods, and any application where contact damage is a concern.
- Wine and liquor bottles
- Auto parts and painted components
- Specialty foods and perishables
- Retail multipackaging

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between extruded and knitted packaging netting?
Extruded netting is rigid and structured — the mesh geometry is fixed and it holds its shape under load. It is the standard choice for produce bags and heavy containment. Knitted netting is soft and conformable — it adapts to the product shape and cushions the surface. It is preferred for bottles, auto parts, and any application where surface protection matters.
Can packaging netting be used for food contact applications?
Yes. Food-grade formulations are available for produce bags and specialty food packaging. Contact a Pursell specialist to discuss food-contact requirements for your application.
Do you stock standard sizes?
Packaging netting from Pursell is made to order. Diameter, mesh size, roll length, material, and color are all specified at the time of order. Contact a Pursell specialist to discuss your requirements and request samples.
What materials are available?
Extruded packaging netting is available in LDPE, HDPE, and polypropylene. Knitted packaging netting is available in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). The right material depends on the application and any food-contact or chemical-resistance requirements.
Where can I order packaging netting?
Packaging netting is available direct from Pursell Manufacturing. Contact a Pursell specialist to discuss your application, request samples, and get a quote for custom sizes and quantities.
